Duke of Edinburgh's Award
By Sarah Brocklehurst
A record number of Year 10 students at Warden Park are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme this year. Under the guidance of Mr Keller, 125 students are working towards the Bronze Award.
To gain the Award participants must complete four sections: Service (helping people in the community), Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest), Physical Recreation (sport, dance or fitness) and Expeditions (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot). It usually takes between 6 and 12 months to complete the Bronze Award. For further information about the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in general please visit: www.theaward.org.
Students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Ward scheme at Warden Park meet on Tuesdays after school in the Dining Hall. Students are also required to attend for 4 hours on one Saturday and to take part in two week-ends away in June and July. In order to complete the Award successfully, students will also need to commit a considerable amount of their leisure time to the various activities.
