Family Learning Day 2008
By Sarah Brocklehurst
Over 30 local families took part in Warden Park's fifth Family Learning Day on Saturday 11th October. Family members were able to try their hand at a wide range of activities including Science, Design & Technology, Geography, Food Technology, Citizenship, Modern Foreign Languages and P.E.
In Food Technology families worked together to create delicious pizzas which they were able to take home with them and in Technology they could either use a laser cutter to make a photo frame or use CAD/CAM to design a mini-light which they then made in the workshop.
In Science families carried out several exciting experiments to find out about various scientific concepts and in Citizenship they tried to decipher tricky clues on a treasure hunt around the school.
The focus on the French and Spanish classes was on simple phrases to use in restaurants and in Japanese families tried their hand at origami, picking up various items of food with chopsticks and writing their names in the Japanese alphabet.
Families that chose sporty activities received top tips on their table tennis technique or took part in Warden Park's very own version of "Superstars" in which the family that gained the most points was presented with a winner's certificate and medals.
Feedback on the day was extremely positive and a good time was had by all. Comments from families who took part included: "Excellent teaching, really enjoyable", "Great fun - really good to spend time with the children. Enjoyed the variety of activities" and "We really enjoyed the day. It's a great way to see the school".
