NVQ - Creating a Course

Mrs Walling, Head of French and 2i/c MFL has been instrumental in creating a two year NVQ French course.  In recognition of Mrs Walling's hard work the following appears on the vocational languages resource bank website (part of The National Centre for Languages website) under 'tips and useful links'.

The same format was used for German and Spanish NVQ courses with adaptations, according to resources available.

The assignment ("situations") were designed to meet both the performance criteria and knowledge requirements of the National Language Standards at NVQ Levels 1 and 2 in the four skill areas, Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

The main resources used were "Métro 4 Vert" and the "Allez-y" series as well as resources created by Mrs Walling.  Creation of resources to fit the assignments did not prove to be a problem.

Many assignments are deliberately open-ended to allow for differentiation by outcome and can be pitched at Level 1 or Level 2 as appropriate.

The contexts can be changed and resources can be created and adapted to meet the specific needs and interests of a particular cohort of students.

The course proved to be very motivating for students.  These students had previously not experienced success in their MFL learning.  So far students entered have all acquired skills and gained certification at Level 1 and many at Level 2.
