Swine Flu Notice (update)

September 2009
By Marion Bishop

All the schools with cases of 'flu are remaining open as usual. We have been advised by the Health Protection Agency that no other actions are necessary.

If you or your child develops symptoms of flu-like illness the advice of the Health Protection Agency is to stay at home and contact your GP or NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Each case will be assessed and, if
necessary, treatment will be provided. Please also let us know by
'phoning reception on 01444 457881 or by emailing us at admin@wardenpark.co.uk.

If your child has an underlying medical condition such as chronic respiratory or heart disease, chronic renal or liver disease, diabetes or immunosuppression (such as treatment for cancer) they should be given antiviral treatment if they develop flu like symptoms. This can be arranged by ringing your GP and saying that you have received this information from your school.

Good basic hygiene can help to reduce transmission of all viruses, including swine flu. This includes:

Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible.

Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully.

Washing your hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to your face or to other people.

Cleaning hard surfaces (such as door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product.

Making sure your children follow this advice.
