International Communication Project: UK and Indian Schools
May 2009
By Gill Charles
In May, staff from Little Flower Convent School and Children's Garden School in Chennai came to England to teach and work with us and Ovingdean Hall School in Brighton after staff from the two schools had visited India in February.
One morning before half term, the five Indian teachers in their brightly coloured flowing saris and four journalists with their camera and sound equipment moved around eight different classrooms in the space of an hour. The journalists were from the Department for International Development who had chosen Warden Park out of all the schools in the country to be filmed and photographed about the first five years of our twenty five year International Communication Project: UK and Indian Schools working together.
The journalists captured Warden Park at its best as they filmed classes and a Year 10 assembly including a stunning dance routine taught by Annie to the GCSE PE students in just three hours. Two students (Maddy Fry and Alisha Burman) who had worked on the Pollution and Acid Rain science projects were filmed talking about the benefits of learning about Global Diversity, equality and sustainability. Their parents are next in focus as the crew moves to their homes from Chennai, where they have been shooting in the Indian schools. Two students from Miss Connor's year 7 class were also chosen for the National Geographic Kids magazine competition. They, and Haritha from Little Flower, will be featured in an upcoming copy of the magazine.
An article about the exchange appeared in the Argus on Saturday 6th June or, for more information and to view the filmed case study, please click here or to see still images click here.
