Family Learning Day
A great time had by all!
By Sarah Brocklehurst
More than 30 local families came to Warden Park on Saturday 17th October to take part in the Family Learning Day. Adults and children were able to try their hands at a wide range of activities led by our enthusiastic teachers.
In food technology families made delicious rock cakes and in design & technology they made key fobs using laser cutters. Science was as popular as ever with lots of exciting experiments; new this year was the "balloon popping challenge" in which particpants had to design and construct a machine from bits of junk which would pop a balloon.
In history the challenge was to try and use the evidence in the classroom to determine who the victim was in a murder mystery. maths came up with a code breaking activity which also involved various European languages, the challenge being to locate the MI6 agent.
Other activities on offer included ICT, art, table tennis, "Sporting Superstars" and an introduction to Chinese language and culture.
At lunchtime lasagne, baked potatoes and apple crumble prepared by Warden Park's award winning in-house caterers "Parkes" were on offer to recharge the batteries ready for the afternoon's activities.
Feedback from the families who took part in Family Learning Day was extremely positive. Comments included: "It was an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable day which really enthused my children"; "Just great. The only school we know that has made this effort for prospective families" and "Great school, great facilities, great teachers - very impressed!"
